Comic Strip Workshop by Sally Kindberg

How do you start and develop a story using a visual narrative within a comic strip format? Participants will have the opportunity to investigate ways of simplifying complicated information, the use of humour and narrative twists.

About the speaker:

Sally Kindberg is an illustrator and author, currently illustrating comic strip books for Bloomsbury. The fourth in the series, The Comic Strip book of Dinosaurs, will be published in 2012. Sally has written and drawn pictures for many books, including one about Hair, and illustrated hundreds more. Whilst working as a newspaper travel writer, she sailed on a Tall Ship to Portugal, and once attended Elf School in Iceland. Sally loves encouraging other people to draw, and recently ran drawing workshops at Edinburgh and Shetland Book Festivals and London’s Cartoon Museum. She lives in London with 92 robots.

I Want To Be A Journalist! by Eliza Teoh

What does becoming a journalist entail? How does one become a good interviewer? Learn the basics of journalism in this workshop: the 5Ws and 1H, how to angle the story and how to end off with a kicker.

About the speaker:

A Singapore Press Holdings scholar, Eliza Teoh was a journalist and sub-editor at The Straits Times. She is currently an editorial and strategic marketing consultant at Dotted Line Consultancy. Ellie Belly: Follow that Bird! is her first children’s book. Inspired by the antics of her own daughters, she created Ellie Belly as a means to capture the hilarious moments that she has shared with them. Aside from entertaining her young readers and nurturing in them a love for animals, she also hopes to encourage the use of good English and inculcate learning in a fun way.
