The Year of the Snake is near and it's just the time for bestselling children's author Sarah Brennan's new book The Tale of Sybil Snake!

Our children's corner at Causeway Bay was crowded with eager fans on 26 Jan 2013.
Who would ever think of weaving a story which blends Wu Zetian, China's only woman Emperor, and the legendary Lady White Snake together? Ssss….ss…ss…sss

Sarah Brennan, bestselling author of The Chinese Calendar Tales series and Dirty Story. That's who!

And she didn't disappoint. The charming tale of the Emperor's favourite pet, the beautiful Sybil Snake whose haunting singing put everyone under her spell, is a mystery that captivated the audience from the start.

The story was full of surprises, which our members found very intriguing – from the treasure Sybil stole to her banishment from the court, from her reincarnation to her marriage to the deceased Emperor's son, from the disappearance of her husband and her son to her ascension to the throne. What an amusement it was to find out the clever arrangement she had made to become the woman Emperor!

Once again, Sarah Brennan has shown her love of Chinese culture in her creation of this highly imaginative tale told in exuberant language and rhymes. As with the other books before, Harry Harrison's unique illustrations bring the story to life. Children will have lots of fun going through each page looking at the quirky details. It's truly a book that can be savoured by older children and adults alike.

Thank you, Sarah, for the most wonderful story!
Thank you, boys and girls, moms and dads, for coming!
