Our beaming members told us that they had visited lots of interesting places during their summer holidays, but none of them went to the deep dark wood…

So it was wonderful to hear Lindy Fok read us the story of Mouse and his stroll in the deep dark wood at our Story Time: 15th anniversary of The Gruffalo on 16 August 2014.

Some of the children in the audience were huge fans of The Gruffalo while others had yet to learn about him. Either way, everyone was equally enthralled when Mrs. Fok started chanting expressively, "A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood, A fox saw the mouse and the mouse look good." Mrs. Fok related energetically and dramatically how Mouse created an imaginary creature called the Gruffalo which had terrible tusks, terrible claws and terrible teeth in his terrible jaws! The children were really impressed to hear how the quick-thinking Mouse cleverly fended off fox, his first enemy who had every intention to turn him into his lunch.

Now everyone was utterly fascinated by Julia Donaldson's best-loved story and eager to discover what might happen next as the mouse walked further into the deep dark wood. After coming face to face with an owl, a snake and finally, a hungry Gruffalo, the story ended up with the clever little mouse munching on a pine cone in the quiet of the deep dark wood. He had frightened off the Gruffalo who had heard that Mouse's favourite food was Gruffalo crumble! For a brief moment there was laughter and a sense of relief among our audience. However, it was quickly turned into excitement when Auntie Christa told them that Gruffalo was actually there to meet them!!!

Nobody was scared of this furry creature with terrible tusks, terrible claws, terrible teeth in his terrible jaws, knobbly knees, turned-out toes and a poisonous wart at the end of his nose! Everyone loved the Gruffalo!

It took about half an hour for everyone in the long queue to have a picture with the Gruffalo! They said good bye and left happily with a Gruffalo mask and activity sheet!

What a fabulous event it was!

Thank you Gruffalo, for coming! Happy 15th anniversary!

Thank you everyone for coming!

Thank you Lindy, for telling the story!

Last but not least, thank you Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler for creating the Gruffalo for our enjoyment!
