Hong Kong Battle of the Books 2012/13 (23/05/2013)

Venue Law Ting Pong Secondary School

Review

Wah Yan College brought home the trophy at the Hong Kong Battle of the Books (Modified Section) 2012/13! Congratulations to them!

Congratulations also go to the other three finalists and the 12 schools participating in the Battle this year! (See the list of participating schools below.) Being in the Battle itself is a great achievement and every student has put his or her heart into it. It was great to hear that they enjoyed the twelve books they had to read for the battle.

The Wah Yan boys did a fantastic job in the Final hosted by Law Ting Pong Secondary School on 23rd May 2013.  There were altogether 12 rounds in the Final, with every school playing all the other finalists, and this team of six proved themselves to be great readers.

This meaningful reading competition started in 2010, and the number of participating schools has grown from 4 to 16 schools this year. This is due to the dedication of the teachers and the commitment of the students involved.

If your child's school is not in the Battle, why not suggest that the school consider joining next year's Battle. It is a great way to encourage students to read more in English. For more details, see www.battleofthebooks.hk

As a proud sponsor, Blooming Club gave a set of 15 recently published books donated by 15 publishers to each team. The students were really thrilled to receive them. A special thank you to these publishers for their support: Bloomsbury, Harper Collins, Hodder, Hot Key Books, Macmillan, Orion, Oxford, Penguin (UK), Penguin (US), Random House (UK), Scholastic (UK), Simon & Schuster (UK), Simon & Schuster (US), Usborne and Walker.
