The Pout-Pout Fish story time on 5 May 2014 by Ms Lindy Fok, one of our members' favourite storytellers, was a little quiet. Could it be that our members couldn't bear to see the glum gloomy face of the ever-present pout on the pout-pout fish's face?

If you had been there, you would have enjoyed Lindy Fok telling the story and skillfully reading the rhyming text. You would have been pleased to find out that the story had a happy ending - the pout-pout fish who thought that it was his destiny to be glum was a very different fish by the end of the story - a kiss by a fish in a silent silver swimmer was what it took to change him!

This story is really good to use to talk about emotions with young children, about how people regard your behaviour, as well as showing them the possibility of making changes to any of their less than satisfactory behavior, in a witty way.

Since there were a number of creatures in the sea who came one after another to try to talk the pout-pout fish into stopping being so gloomy, Ms Fok took the opportunity to go through the new words with the young audience first. She advised parents to do so when the story contains new vocabulary, as it would make children more comfortable and confident to learn the words before listening to the story. She also added that it is always important to choose a book with the appropriate reading level - a book with too many difficult words would only kill the fun of reading.

Thank you, Lindy, for the story and the advice.

Thank you, parents and children, for coming.

Children, remember not to pout, instead spread your cheeriness all over your faces!
