Who's the star in The Star of the Zoo? It's not the lion, not the giraffe nor the monkey! Judging from the beautiful cover of the three animals looking at a bright falling star, our smart members could tell immediately that it's the little star our debut author, Virginie Zurcher, wrote about in the story! So they sang harmoniously Twinkle Twinkle Little Star together with her to start off our story time.

Ms Zurcher set the scene nicely, bringing the children to a quiet, star lit night at the zoo when all of a sudden the unexpected happened! The tranquility was disturbed by a fallen Little Star. All the animals came to her rescue. Lion helped, followed by Monkey and giraffe all to no avail. How could Little Star return to the sky before sunrise? Ant's plea to help was ignored again and again on account of her small size.

Ms Zurcher built the story up dramatically and our members listened with great anticipation. Then there was a glimmer of hope when none of the attempts had succeeded; Ant was finally given a chance despite others' disbelief. How? The mystery was solved when Ant returned with thousands of her friends to build a tower! And they did it!

The children were relieved to see Little Star home safely! What a wonderful thing it is to work together to turn the impossible to possible! The author has created a truly uplifting tale which is age appropriate to show the importance of teamwork.

The story was made even more memorable when Ms Zurcher showed them how to make a lion with a plate and some noodles as well as an ant using just paper, glue and some wires. The parents and children were like the ants, they showed great team work in making the crafts too!

Thank you, Virginie, for this wonderful story and the fun craft activities! Looking forward to your next story!
