Review
On 5 Dec 2011, we had an early but really wonderful celebration of Christmas at our storytelling session at Tsimshatsui. Lise Fraissinet, our storyteller, shared how the French traditionally celebrate Christmas and then demonstrated how a small piece of shiny red paper could be shared by the 30 plus children present by cutting it into small pieces. It's all a matter of having the heart to give.
The children were amazed to find out that's exactly what the story of Just Right was all about. The scraps from the red, soft Christmassy cloth that the King had found for the princess would be made into something special that made many people very happy , including the Kitchen maid's mom, Bertie Badger's dad, Samuel squirrel's wife and Millie Mouse's Little Billy.
This warm and beautiful celebration of Christmas and the experience of the joy of giving is exactly what we at Blooming Club want to remind our members that Christmas is all about.
Lise was truly glad to be able to spend the time with our children and coincidentally the story's theme is the same as a French song which she learnt as a little girl. She has translated it here and sent this as her present to all of you for Christmas! It's called "les Fabulettes-Joyeux Noel" by Anne Sylvestre, 1981.
Christmas is not in the shops
I'd like to please people
I'd like to be rich
to buy and give
everything in the windows
everything others have made
but I only have three small coins
how can I still give
presents to the ones I love
Christmas is not in the shops
but in my heart and in my hands
and if I'm willing to try
I'll find my mind full
with everything I'll give tomorrow
Christmas is not in the shops
With paper and scissors
crayons and glue
I'll create birds
that sing and fly.
with tiny pieces of cloth
ribbons and lost buttons
pink and blue cotton
I'll invent things
Once I'll have made all flowers
lanterns and pictures
I'll wrap them up
in a huge piece of happiness
and to tie all this up
a big smile will do.
My gift is for you to take
see how sweet it is
Christmas is not in the shops
We hope now the lyrics will mean something special to you too and you will start making something meaningful for your loved ones and offer your gift from your heart this Christmas.
