Do you remember how you learned English pronunciation when you were young? In the past, there was no chance to learn English using phonics, and most students picked up vocabulary learning by rote. It was certainly an unpleasant way of learning English! At this workshop, Mrs. Bally Wong, the Principal of ABC Pathways School, will briefly introduce the development of various phonics systems. She will also explain the reasons why synthetic phonics is the most effective phonic systems. Parents will understand the importance of phonics when they get to know how their children learn to blend (for reading), decode (for writing) and pronounce (for speaking) words.

家長們還記得小時候怎樣學習英語發音嗎？當年在學校沒有機會學習拼音技巧，都是把生字一個一個的背誦下來，實在是有點吃力。在這個家長拼音工作坊，黃校長會簡單介紹不同英語拼音系統的發展，並解釋為何原音拼合法可以獨當一面，成為最有成效的英語拼音方法。家長會更加了解小朋友如何運用原音拼合法技巧來合拼（讀）、分拆（寫）和發音（講）英文字。黃校長希望透過此工作坊，讓家長明白英語拼音的重要性。

About the speaker:

Principal Bally Wong is an EMBA graduate from the University of Hull and has over fifteen years of experience in the Hong Kong education industry. Before founding ABC Pathways School in 2002, Bally worked at a prestigious international educational institute where she helped students from Hong Kong to travel and study overseas. Bally has also been a part-time lecturer at HKU SPACE.

關於講耆：

黃林趣玲校長畢業於赫爾大學（行政工商管理學碩士），並擁有超過15年的教學經驗。曾在世界級的教學機構工作，協助香港學生到海外升學及遊學。多年來培育出不少成就卓越的學生。對不同國家的教育制度及世界認可的英語考試特別了解。2002年創辦 ABC Pathways School，現擔任校長一職，黃校長也曾任香港大學專業進修學院之客席講師。
