We use our voices everyday, continuously, without giving it much thought.
We barely consider how a trained storytelling voice would help us to communicate better.

Pauline Young, communication specialist and author of "Socks Heaven", helped 13 participants at Your Storytelling Voice Workshop on 22 August 2013 to improve the quality of their voices. Pauline showed the participants how to use exercise to relax their bodies and then taught them the techniques of modulation, articulation, projection and PET (pause, emphasis and tone). To their surprise, the exercises had an immediate effect in opening up their voices, thus attaining improved audibility, attractiveness and authority.

Whether one's desired voice is melodic, sweet, authoritative or sexy,
once the goal is set, it can be achieved by practising full body support, voice production and breathing control.

Everyone loves a good story. There are so many stories that deserve to be told, whether they are personal stories, traditional stories, stories in the news or family stories. We just need to pay attention. Stories are good for breaking the ice, illustrating an abstract idea or simply for entertainment.

The participants had an enjoyable time telling each other stories about their names, best friends and worst vacation after learning the storytelling tips. There was a short performance of two stories, each one skillfully putting into practice newly acquired skills – the storytellers were relaxed with good posture and they started with strong vocal attack, had eye contact with the audience, used body language and, most importantly, they put their heart into it. It was wonderful!

Everyone was very grateful for Pauline's professional advice. Here are some of their comments:
Vivanne – "I have learnt to choose the right voice to speak."
Simon – "I have found the voice that suits my style and will work on it."
Angelica – "I have learnt how to structure stories better."
CK –"I have learnt to use the whole body in speaking. There are a lot of things to practise."
Cherry – "The exercise is very good. I will continue to do it. It's good for my voice and health."
