What a fabulous anniversary party we had on 5th October! About 50 children and their parents celebrated with us on our special day.

Christa Tam, Project Manager of Blooming Club, gave the highlights on the club's development over the past four years. Then, it was the children's favourite Story Time!

David Parrish, our storyteller of the day, told the hilariously witty tale of Lion vs Rabbit. by Alex Latimer. This story of how a lion is taught a lesson by a tiny little rabbit is a treat. The story is funny and the slightly quirky illustrations are very appealing. What's more, the little hints that show how a tiny little rabbit tricks the lion help young readers to learn to be observant.

The audience was charmed by interactive storytelling and the way David did the silly voices. Some parents told us afterwards that this brilliant story would open the opportunity to talk to children about bullying and the importance of working together to tackle the problem.

To give children a chance to share the books they enjoy reading, we had "Our Favourite Book" session again this year. Eight children came up on stage to speak about the books and characters they love, and showed the picture they had drawn. We learned that Curious George, Fly Guy, Tinkerbell, Doraemon were amongst their favourite characters.

Next came the lucky draw! Thanks to the tremendous support from Hodder, Macmillan, Oxford, Penguin, Random House, Scholastic and Walker, we had a beautiful picture book for everyone. The children came up onto the stage to pick the book they liked to take home to read. What a delight it was to see their happy faces!

Everyone joined in to sing the Happy Birthday song to Blooming Club! While the children were waiting for a piece of birthday cake, Mrs. Jan Mann, Blooming Club's honorary advisor, told a short story and shared with parents ways to turn children into book lovers.

Thank you, parents, for your support and for letting us be part of your children's childhood.

Let's continue to work together to help children discover the pleasure of reading.

Happy reading!
