Loved by millions the world over for over five decades, Paddington is also a recognizable character in Hong Kong. Yet, his story is relatively unknown to many here. Since Paddington is considered a British institution, it was fitting to have Ms Chloe Goudvis, an experienced teacher for young learner courses from the British Council to tell our members and their parents his story before they go to the movie this Christmas!

Every child wanted to know where this lovely bear came from and why he's called Paddington. Paddington's origin provided a great opportunity to teach the young ones geography! They were obviously amazed to hear from Ms Goudvis that Paddington was a stowaway from Darkest Peru! After checking out on the world map they found it quite unbelievable that a young bear could travel thousands of miles from South America to Paddington Station in London all by himself! And living on a jar of marmalade! In the meantime, a member found a jar of marmalade under the computer table right after Ms Goudvis had asked them to look for it! Well spotted!

The children were charmed not just by the loveable Paddington, who was the kind of bear that got into troubles always, but by Ms Goudvis' very lively and engaging delivery with lots of interaction. Paddington’s first day in London after his encounter with Mr. & Mrs. Brown who brought him home was full of fun and exciting adventures for both the bear and the young audience! They obviously looked very eager to find out what more adventures Paddington would have after treading on a strawberry tart, falling on a cup of tea, smearing a London taxi driver’s jacket with cream and jam, and flooding the bath room! As Paddington declared that at the end of a fascinating day, “Things are always happening to me. I'm that sort of bear.

The attentive and well behaved children were fantastic! At the spot the differences session that followed, they spotted them all in no time! Each then had a cracker with marmalade to find out if they like marmalade as much as their beloved bear!

The classic stories of Paddington's adventures make great bed time stories, share them with your child and make Paddington a part of his childhood. Go to http://www.blooming-club.com/activity.php?id=168
