Story Time: Paddington (13/12/2014)

A bear from Darkest Peru arrived at Paddington Station with nothing but a suitcase, a half-empty jar of marmalade and a label that reads, "Please look after this bear. Thank you.'

Mr. And Mrs. Brown discovered him, named him Paddington and welcomed him into their home, where he has lived ever since.

Created by Michael Bond over 5 decades ago, Paddington will be on the big screen this Christmas.

Discover Paddington before you see the movie.

Join our Story Time: Paddington by Chloe Goudvis from British Council on 13 December 2014.

About the author:

Michael Bond was born in Newbury, Berkshire, England on 13th January 1926. He began writing in 1945 and sold his first short story to a magazine called London Opinion. This experience helped him decide that he wanted to be a writer.

It was while Michael Bond was working as a television cameraman for the BBC that he first came up with the idea for Paddington after he had brought a small toy bear left on a London store on Christmas Eve 1956 as a present for his wife, Brenda. The bear was named after Paddington as they were living near Paddington Station then. He began to write some stories about the bear and the first A Bear Called Paddington was published in 1958 by Harper Collins. Paddington became so successful that he gave up his job at the BBC to become a full time writer.
