Our Blooming Club Children's Books Corner was packed on 9 May with children, parents and grand parents to see the legendary Peter Yarrow, from Peter, Paul and Mary in person.
To Peter's delight when he emerged, everyone greeted him with his best-loved song, Puff, the Magic Dragon, which we had the chance to practise whilst awaiting his arrival. Peter immediately joined in singing and finished the song off for us! He followed on with Day Is Done which was especially appropriate on Mother's Day celebrating the bond between parents and children.
Peter, a grandpa, showed his great love for children all the way through, inviting the young folks to join him in singing, often chatting to them and giving them "high fives". Both children and adults had a great time singing along to children's favourite tunes such as Row, Row, Row the Boat, Mary Had a Little Lamb, A-Tiskat, A-Tasket and Billy Boy from his latest release The Peter Yarrow Songbook: Songs for Little Folks.
Peter shared with the parents how he often sits down and pages through his songbooks, singing to his granddaughter, Valentina (2 ½); sometimes he just plays the CD and points at the words and images so she can relate the two. The children who crowded around Peter got just the same treatment as Valentina! We are quite certain that they will be asking Daddy and Mommy for more of the same at home from now on.
At the signing afterwards, Peter kindly took the time to chatter to each and everyone of the children, sitting them on his lap and having a picture taken with the whole family. What a fantastic present it was for our members who came on Mother's Day to spend such an intimate afternoon with our celebrity, Peter, singing with him and listening to stories of his experiences with his granddaughter and importantly how to use his songs for learning correct English! There is never a dull moment at Blooming Club!
