May has been a really busy at Blooming Club as we brought our books to a wider audience in Shenzhen at the Children & Teen Section at the Shenzhen Children’s Library held concurrently with the 6th International Cultural Industries Fair from 14 -17 May. Quality titles from Macmillan, Usborne, Oxford, Sterling, Auspicious Times, Scholastic, Penguin and Orion were showcased at our corner in Sino-United Publishing (Holdings) Ltd’s stand for librarians, teachers, parents and children to browse.

We also had a storytelling session by Sarah Brennan, the Hong-Kong based children’s author. Sadly, due to the recent horrific attack on primary school children, the 100 plus school children’s visit had to be cancelled. Instead, the event was attended by eager parents who came privately with children. Their limited English ability did not diminish their enjoyment of Sarah’s Tale of Temujin, with the aid of an interpreter. It gave us tremendous pleasure to share our love for good stories in English with children on the mainland and to exchange views on the promotion of reading stories with customers there. We will definitely go back next year!
