Blooming Club is now a proud sponsor of the Hong Kong Battle of the Books(HKBOB), a reading programme started 10 years ago aimed at encouraging students to read quality literature from a variety of genres by prominent authors. It has been particularly popular amongst the international schools. This year, HKBOB had its first ever Modified List for the EMI schools' participation with a shorter reading list of 10 books as opposed to the main stream's 20 books. There were four participating schools - Hoi Ping Chamber of Commerce Secondary School, Creative Secondary School, SKH Tang Shiu Kin Secondary and St Mark's School at the competition held in Hoi Ping Chamber of Commerce Secondary School on 13 May 2010.

Each team battled it out in six rounds on the day of the competition. Not knowing what to expect, the students seemed to be a bit nervous in the beginning but gradually began to ease up. During the third round, Hoi Ping and Creative between them managed to answer all the 12 questions, a feat which was later remarked upon by Jan Mann, the Chairperson, since no international school had answered all the questions in any round during the mainstream semi-final held earlier in the month. This showed the great effort the students had made in preparation for the competition. The proud winners were the team from St Mark's School.

As a sponsor, Blooming Club is very pleased to see that HKBOB has successfully extended its programme to the traditional schools. What's more important is that all the team members and the students who cheered them at competition had really enjoyed reading the books meticulously selected by the committee. That really made everyone a winner! Blooming Club and HKBOB hope to see more and more children reading for pleasure. With such a great start, we are confident that we will see more schools and students in contention for next year's title. For detail of HKBOB, please click here.

Congratulations to all the four schools for being in the first ever Modified List competition. Thank you for being our pioneers.
