Blooming Club had a great success at the Hong Kong Book Fair 2012 which ended on 24 July. Typhoon Vicente did not dampen our visitors' enthusiasm, and hundreds of them came to our booth at the Children's Paradise for their selection.

Apart from a wide range of picture books, fiction and non-fiction titles for our readers, the daily events we organized during the book fair both on site and off site attracted many young book lovers. They chanted along with Jan Mann at the Tough Boris story time and were most surprised to know that a tough pirate like Boris had a soft side – he cried when his parrot died.

Eliza Teoh came especially from Singapore to meet her fans here. Her bestselling series featuring Ellie Belly, a bright and mischievous 7-years-old little girl who understands animals has certainly found an audience here. They love the hilarious moments captured in the stories loosely based on the antics of the author's two daughters.

At Lise Leyris' reading of Petit Paul Globe Trotter, the children enjoyed talking about the places and things they like in Hong Kong – Ocean Park, the beaches, the Peak - just like the character Petit Paul in the book. Young readers had a great journey of discovery at Pauline Young's Sock Heaven event and learnt the joy of finding what was once lost.

Bestselling UK author Holly Webb met her fans at the reading and book signing at Olympian City on 22 July 2012. A little girl told us that she loves the author's stories because they are really touching and sometimes even make her cry.

Just before Typhoon Vicente hit Hong Kong on 23 July, many children had great fun at What the Ladybird Heard story time with Ingrid Daniel, senior teacher of the British Council. They loved joining in each time Ingrid talked about an animal in the farm, saying "Moo!" "Cluck!" " Hiss!" "Quack!" "Neigh!" "Oink!" "Baa!" "Woof!" They were most happy to find out that the clever ladybird successful saved the prized cow with the help of all the farm animals. While many visitors were rushing home because of Typhoon Vicente, the children were so engrossed in the story that they were completely oblivious to the noise and the rush around them.

A different costumed character from Kids' Gallery reading programmes was present at our booth everyday for a couple of hours and each proved to be a great attraction for our visitors.

We thank all the authors, storytellers and publishers for all of their support, and thank all of you for coming.
