Story Time: Where the Wild Things Are - A Tribute to Maurice Sendak (11/08/2012)

After being called a wild thing by his mother and sent to bed without supper for being naughty, Max's imagination transforms his bedroom into a land full of wild things. Yet he turns out to be the most wild thing of all……
Miss Miki Yokoyama will read Where the Wild Things Are by the late Maurice Sendak who died at age 83 in May this year. She will also share with you A Kiss for Little Bear, also illustrated by Maurice Sendak.
About the authors:
Maurice Sendak was an American writer and illustrator of children's literature. He was best known for his book Where the Wild Things Are, winner of the Caldecotte Medal, first published in 1963. The New York Times obituary called Sendak "the most important children's book artist of the 20th century."
Else Holmelund Minarik is the author of the timeless Little Bear stories, illustrated by Maurice Sendak. She continues to write stories for children from her home in New Hampshire.
About the storyteller:
Miki Yokoyama is a university student living in Tokyo. She is home for the summer. Being read to by her mother since she was a toddler has helped develop her interest in books, languages, people and things around her. She loves reading, writing, music and sports. Her favourite children's book is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.
