Parents Workshop: Helping your child with beginning reading skills (08/11/2012)

Parents can play a critical role during the early stages of reading acquisition. You will learn simple, fun and effective activities to practice sight word mastery, blending, fluency and vocabulary. Using Strategies from Reading Recovery, Signs for Sounds, and Language Experience, parents will reinforce and enhance their child’s beginning reading and writing skills and interest.
Target: Parents/ Educators of children ages 4-6

About the trainer:
Julie Fowlkes has over 40 years of international experience in early childhood literacy. She has a Master Degree in Reading and a Lifetime Credential as a Reading Specialist. After working as a teacher and reading specialist in numerous public schools in California, she spent over 30 years training teachers and educators at various universities in the U.S. She is a published author (“Reading Without Books”, published by Fearon Pitman: Belmont, 1979) and has been invited to present at many international conferences including the International Reading Association, USA. Ms. Fowlkes joined the Bring Me A Book Foundation in Mountain View California in 2004 and was instrumental in developing, piloting and training facilitators in Bring Me A Book’s award-winning First Teacher’s program.
