Story Time: Amma, Tell Me About Diwali! (24/11/2012)

Diwali, also known as the "Festival of Lights", is celebrated every autumn, and is one of the most important festivals for Hindus. It is very special as it also starts off the Hindu New Year.

Families gather together to celebrate in their homes with many traditional activities including lighting diyas (oil lamps). But why do they do that?

Bhakti Mathur, the author of Amma, Tell Me About Diwali, will explain everything to us.

If you want to know a bit more about Indian culture, don't miss this event.

About the storyteller:

Bhakti Mathur grew up in Delhi, India. She lives in Hong Kong with her husband, her two sons and her pet golden labrador. She is a banker by profession. When she is not writing, working or running after her boys, she is happiest curled up with a book and a hot cup of chai. Visit Bhakti's website at www.ammatellme.com
