Dr. Michel Fraissinet's talk on Nourishing Reading (19/11/2010)
Is your child receiving the right "food" for his or her developing mind? According to child psychiatrist Dr. Michel Fraissinet, the best nourishment for the developing mind during childhood is contained in the encounter between adult and child, bonding around three supports: images, the written word, and speech.
What can parents do to make sure that their children are really getting what their minds need? Join us on Friday 19th Nov 2010, from 7.30 to 9.00 pm, for Dr. Fraissinet's talk on "Nourishing Reading" at Tsimshatsui Blooming Club Corner to find out.
About the speaker:
Dr. Michel Fraissinet was born in 1947 in Montpellier, a town in the south of France famous for its university and its historical focus on medicine. He studied medicine and specialized in Child Psychiatry, with patients from toddlers to teens. For the first half of his career he worked in a public hospital in the Children & Teenager Psychology Department, and then moved to the Educational and Pedagogic Therapeutic Institute to concentrate on medico-social problems in youngsters.
His work over the decades has put him in contact with children facing various stages of mental illness as well as those who have had to confront serious diseases or tough home and/or social environments in order to develop and grow. His experience in both his professional and personal life has convinced him of the importance of working closely with the family, as it is the key support for each child's well-being.
