Even Moominmamma finds it hard to comfort him... How is his birthday going to end? Come to our Moomin and the Birthday Button storytelling and learn more about the Moomin family from Sue Ribeiro who has loved the Moomin family since she was a little girl.
Tove Janson's Moomin family and their friends have enchanted generations of children and adults with their particular humour and magic. Now younger readers can also enjoy the stories and the characters in a newly launched series of picture books using the author's original artwork in celebration of the 65th anniversary of Moomin. Moomin and the Birthday Button is the first in the series.
About the author:
Tove Jansson (1914 – 2001), was born in 1914 in Helingsfors, Finland. She drew her first Moomin in the 1930s, just for fun, to tease her little brother by drawing the ugliest creature she could think of. Moomin developed a nicer snout and character and in 1939 he became a character in a children's story.
Most of the books were written on a small island in the Gulf of Finland where Tove, her mother and brother were the only inhabitants.
About the storyteller:
Sue Ribeiro has lived in Hong Kong for donkey's years, and worked in publishing before helping to establish Bloomsbury Books in 1983. She retired from the bookshop three years ago and enjoys being able to curl up with a good book, dog at feet and cat at elbow, whenever she wants to. Travel, music, gardening and food and wine are other interests.
